If you are using windows server 2012 r2 and wondering why you are unable to ping IPs, monitor or ping other servers within the same network environment … It’s simple; The default settings on windows 2012 r2 does not allow ICMP ping therefore you will be unable to get a ping response if you try to.
To disable this feature, without having to disable your complete firewall, here is what to do:
Click on the windows icon
Go to Control Panel—–> System and Security —–> Windows Firewall —-> Advanced Setting —-> Inbound rules—> search for (File and Printer Sharing(Echo Request-Icmpv4-In) , right-click and enable
Close all dialogue boxes and retry pinging.
NOTE: If you are dealing with multiple servers, make sure this process is repeated on the the other servers you’re trying to ping or get a response from.
